Hair Extension Clips & Airport Metal Detector?

Do the clips used on hair extensions set off the metal detector going through Airport Security? Does anyone have any experience with this? The last time I traveled I had a metal barrette on and was made to take it off and put through the scanner in a basket. Any info and experience would be appreciated. It's possible. Just inform the security agent *before* you go through the arch that you have metal in your hair. They'll probably just pull you aside and do the wand on you; perhaps look in your hair.
