What kind of damage occurs from hair extensions?

I keep reading other questions and everyone mentions damage. As in ';don't do it, it will damage your hair'; like to what extreme? Will a person go bald or just get split ends? Why do some people get extensions while they are growing out hair lenght? I don't get it?What kind of damage occurs from hair extensions?
If you get the glue on your scalp extensions, it won't damage your hair(Just a little itchy). If you get the one that is sewed in, it does sometimes pull on your hair and give you a reseeding hairline. No damage occurs if the hair extensions are professionally applied and the hair extensions are professional removed. People have issues with hair extensions when the above two are not followed. This is why I always say go to a professional hair extensions salon to avoid any issues.

but they do get fried easliy %26amp; if you dont wash them, then they get nappy.
i would say dead ends cuz you clip them on really tight
