How to blend clip in hair extensions with short hair?

I got the clip in extensions that are 14'; and my hair is just at my shoulders. Obviously, when I put them in, my hair shows through, especially because it's thicker and more frizzy. Will a hair stylist be able to blend it in with layers without taking too much off of the extensions? Also, will I still be able to wear my hair short if they have to trim some of my hair?How to blend clip in hair extensions with short hair?
