How to you cut hair extensions to give them a layered look?

I have some hair extensions that are just way too long for my hair. What I'd like to do is have them cut, but the problem is, I still want them so have the layered cut! I know how to cut layers, but how do I cut them on extensions?


Does anyone know how to do this?


PS: I know I can take them to be cut by a professional but is there any way I can do it by myself?How to you cut hair extensions to give them a layered look?
