Whatever you do, don't wash your hair with hot water!

It sounds like your hair is slightly wavy, or curly. I would comb the hair, right after washing, and comb again when its dry. That should keep it more or less straight.

If you want curly hair, don't comb it, never! You will make your hair bushy! Only comb it when it's wet, and then squeeze it until it's got some curl in it. Don't use a hair dryer either.Do you know any hairstyles for long hair which don't allow hair product and electronics?
first, get duck bill clips and set them where u can easily reach them

second, twist a piece of hair between your fingers and clip it up on top of your head with the duckbill clip.

third, repeat this till all your hair is pinned up.

fourth, let your hair dry and when it does your hair will be wavy and not messy at all.
You could get some clips, and pin back the front section, or if you want a messier look, you could backbrush it, or tease it.
make a bump(pouf) on the top of your head.
